Mainly used as a substitute for the Foxes, he made his breakthrough during the 2002–03 season, when he scored two Championship goals including a winning strike against Nottingham Forest. Brentford and Blackpool Wright had a loan spell with Brentford the following season, netting three times in twenty-five appearances for the Bees. His first goal for Brentford came against Hartlepool United. He then showed his League One pedigree with Blackpool in late 2005, once again his first goal for his new club coming against Hartlepool United. Wright was widely expected to sign for Blackpool permanently following 8 goals in just 13 games, but instead opted to join Barnsley, who had agreed a fee with Leicester for the services of the six foot forward and he signed permanently for them in early 2006. Barnsley The Reds had to beat off some stiff competition to land the forward, who made his bow for Barnsley against Chesterfield and became a regular for the Tykes towards the end of the 2006–07 campaign. Barnsley's promotion to the Football League Championship saw Wright figure more from the bench for the Yorkshire side during the 2006–07 season and in November he was sent out on loan to League Two side Walsall,[2] where he scored twice in five starts. Wright left Walsall on Boxing Day 2006, with the club at the top of the league. Darlington Darlington then swooped for the forward during the January transfer window completing a loan deal in time for him to make his debut against Bury. Wright scored an 87th-minute equaliser to ensure Darlington went away from Gigg Lane with a point. Shortly afterwards he completed a permanent move to the club. Aberdeen On 8 August 2008, Wright moved on transfer to Aberdeen for a fee of £75,000.[3] Wright caused a stir in his first appearance in an Aberdeen shirt, receiving a yellow card for a reckless challenge, and was involved in a suspected headbutt attempt on Motherwell defender Stephen Craigan.[4] In his second first team appearance, in which he played for the last four minutes in a Rangers match, he was giving a warning by the referee for his only action during the game, a sliding tackle.[citation needed] He scored his first senior goal for Aberdeen with a spectacular effort from the edge of the area in a Scottish Cup Fifth Round tie against East Fife at Pittodrie. Shortly after, in early March 2009, he netted his first Scottish Premier League goal, a quite stunning header from the edge of the area for a last minute equaliser in a 1-1 draw with St Mirren. He also scored two well-taken goals against Fraserburgh in a friendly match at the Bellslea Park, Fraserburgh. His injury problems continued into the 2009–10 season.[5] By January it became clear that Mark McGhee had lost patience with Wright and made it publicly know he was available for a transfer.[6] Wright attracted interest from League One side Stockport County,[7] but they failed to follow up their initial interest. On 27 January, Wright was released from his contract with Aberdeen.[8] Grimsby Town On 28 January 2010, Wright signed for Grimsby Town, penning an eighteen-month contract.[9] Wright struggled to hold a place in the team and after finding it hard to find any kind of form, Wright and Grimsby were relegated from the Football League. Despite initially making public his desire to stay at the club,[10] Wright was to leave Grimsby in May 2010. Return to Darlington On 31 May 2010, it was confimed that Wright had exercised a clause in his Grimsby Town contract allowing him to leave the club with immediate effect. Following this, Wright rejoined former club Darlington on a two-year deal.[11] International He represented England U-20s at the 2003 FIFA World Youth Championship.[citation needed] Honours Leicester City Football League Division One Runner up : 2002–03 Walsall Football League Two winner: 2006–07 References ^ a b Hugman, Barry J, ed (2007).
