Raucheneccker was born in Munich; he was a a pupil of Theodor Lachner (older brother of Franz Lachner), August Baumgartner and Joseph Walter. Rauchenecker became a violinist and later Kapellmeister in France,[citation needed] then musical director at Winterthur;[1] he conducted the Berlin Philharmonic for the 1884/1885 season.[3] For the 1874 music festival in Zürich he wrote a cantata titled Niklaus von der Flüe about the patron saint of Switzerland which earned him a prize. He wrote an opera based on the Don Quixote story,[2] as well as Die letzten Tage von Thule, Sanna, and Zlatorog, all of which were produced in Elberfeld, plus Der Florentiner which was produced in Strasbourg after his death.[3] The Florentine Quartet promoted his string quartets.[4] His Symphony in F minor of 1876 was published in 1883.[5] Other works of his included two other symphonies (B major, Jubelsinfonie, 1885; D major, Elegische Sinfonie, 1903/4), 2 violin concertos, 2 piano concertos and a string sextet.[3] For roughly the last decade of his life he was director of a music school he founded in Elberfeld and conducted an orchestra there.[3] References ^ a b p. 634 (1899) Riemann ^ a b p. 185, Clifford (1911) John Herbert.
