Fleischer studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in the 1970s under the tutelage of such giants as Stan Brakhage. Fleischer's principal contributions have been in the area of avant-garde cinema and personal documentary. He has more than 20 film credits under his belt, principally as director, DOP, editor, writer, and consultant. He advised Jim Shedden on the structure of his documentary Brakhage.
