As of the 2007-08 school year, the district's six schools had an enrollment of 3,465 students and 263.0 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 13.2.[1] The district is classified by the New Jersey Department of Education as being in District Factor Group "I", the second highest of eight groupings. Tenafly was the only high school in New Jersey and one of 38 public high schools in the U.S. to receive the 2005 Blue Ribbon School Award.[4] Tenafly High School was the 2nd ranked public high school in New Jersey out of 316 schools statewide, in New Jersey Monthly magazine's September 2006 cover story on the state's Top Public High Schools.[5] Schools Schools in the district (with 2007-08 enrollment data from the National Center for Education Statistics[6]) are: Elementary Schools (K-5) Mackay School - 359 students Maugham School - 350 students Smith School - 361 students Stillman School - 367 students Middle School (6-8) Tenafly Middle School - 850 students The Tenafly Middle School 8th grade string orchestra, conducted by Mrs. Erika Boras Tesi, won first place in the American String Teachers Association's National Orchestra Festival. The orchestra now has the title of number one middle school orchestra in the United States. The orchestra competed in Kansas City on March 8, 2006, and received a Superior rating. A new section of the school was opened in the Fall of 2007. High School Tenafly High School had 1,138 students in ninth through twelfth grades.
